A question that pops up all the time for me is “what to eat” before we workout. I also “stumble” on this issue when I noticed added fatigue in Clients say 20 minutes into a Session and I ask them what they’ve eaten today/recently and the answer is more often than not “nothing.” You NEED to have something in your system before you exercise, especially if you are doing intense workouts or utilizing 1 on 1 attention from a Personal Trainer. Though information and advice you will come across varies slightly, timing and type stay basically uniform.
Timing is everything. According to the ISSN, it’s best to eat a snack of 50 grams of carbohydrates and 5-10 grams of protein(roughly a 5:1 ratio) approximately 30-60 minutes before a Workout/Session to produce greater muscle protein synthesis and ENERGY. So, find a snack you like with these approximate ratios and get eating!
